Vietnam Maritime Administration Announces Hotline to Support 160 Vietnamese Seafarers in the Middle East
Hotline for supporting Vietnamese seafarers in the Middle East. In response to the complex maritime security situation in the Middle East, the Vietnam Maritime Administration has announced a hotline to support Vietnamese seafarers in the Middle East, aiming to ensure the safety of ships and workers operating in this high-risk area.
Currently, there are 8 ships with approximately 160 Vietnamese seafarers working on shipping routes in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and several other countries in the Gulf region.
Vietnam Maritime Administration Announces Hotline to Support Vietnamese Seafarers
On March 3, the Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration announced the establishment of two emergency hotline numbers to provide urgent assistance to Vietnamese vessels and seafarers operating in the Middle East.

These hotlines serve as direct communication channels for reporting emergencies and receiving support related to maritime security, vessel safety, and the rights and welfare of Vietnamese seafarers.
Around 160 Vietnamese Seafarers Currently Operating in the Middle East
According to the maritime authority, eight Vietnamese-flagged vessels, carrying approximately 160 Vietnamese seafarers, are currently operating in waters across the Middle East.
Given the increasingly complex security situation in the region, these vessels have been warned of heightened maritime safety risks.
The Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration has instructed shipowners, shipping companies, and crewing. Agencies to closely monitor updates from Vietnamese authorities as well as local governments in the region in order to respond promptly to any emergency situations.
Enhanced Maritime Security Measures Required
To minimize risks to vessels and crew members, the Administration has instructed ships operating in the region to implement the highest level of maritime security measures.
- Maintaining regular communication with relevant authorities
- Closely monitoring international maritime security advisories
- Ensuring the Automatic Identification System (AIS) is functioning properly
Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Closely Monitoring the Situation
The Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration has also directed. The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Vietnam MRCC) to strengthen. Monitoring efforts and maintain continuous communication with Vietnamese vessels operating in the Middle East.
Rising Maritime Security Risks in the Strait of Hormuz
The announcement follows escalating tensions in the Middle East after airstrikes targeting Iran. Which prompted warnings from Tehran regarding the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints. Through which approximately 20% of global oil supplies are transported.
